ABSTRACT
The use of the amniotic membrane as a temporary biological cover facilitates the epithelialization in burns of partial thickness, diminishes the pain when isolating the injuries and by the presence of anti-inflammatory factors. Radio-sterilized amniotic membrane was applied in 15 patients, who were cured in a period of 21 days in areas where was not used the biological dressing and 10 ± 3 in where the membrane was applied. The amnion works like a barrier between the wound and the environment, since it reduces the feeling of pain, reduces electrolytes and protein heat loss; helps to achieve a fast epithelialization in burns of partial thickness and prepares the total thickness wound to be covered with grafts. The time that goes by elapses for the treatment of burns of partial thickness is reduced with the application of the amniotic membrane, which was statistically one demonstrated.
