Supracondylar fractures in children, surgical treatment

ABSTRACT

In the pediatric group, elbow fractures are the second more frequent traumatic injuries that affect the upper limb. In the present paper, we present the results surgical treatment of supracondylar fractures at our hospital, from January 2001 to December 2002, with a follow-up of 4 to 16 months; patients averaged 5 years old. 99% of these fractures were closed and only 1% open. Those surgically treated (open reduction and internal fixation with K-wires) were Wilkins III, III-A, III-B; Lian III; Holmberg IV and Gartland III types. Results, clinically and radiologically were very good (90%), good (7%) and fair (3%).
