ABSTRACT
We reviewed the results of spinal instrumentation by Luque single rod in “U” with a transverse union and sublaminar wiring, which was performed in 22 patients with idiopathic scoliosis. Average age at the time of surgery was 14.9 years and 3.9 years follow up. The average scoliosis measured 50 degrees preoperatively. It was corrected to 28 at operation and was 38 degrees at the last X-ray control (24%). Fifteen of them had a decrease of 10 degrees in the scoliotic curve and 3 had an increase of 5° regarding to the initial curve; in 4 there was not loss of correction. Nobody had neurologic deficit, all patients had adequate fusion that was the main purpose. Our results indicate: the spinal instrumentation with Luque single rod in “U” with transverse union and sublaminar wiring is a good alternative for experienced surgeons who treat idiopathic scoliosis.
