Arthroscopy of the knee under local anesthesia

ABSTRACT
Intra-articular anesthesia of the knee was applied by 20 ml of 2% of xylocaine without the use of tourniquet in 39 males (one bilateral) and 34 women for a whole operated on 74 knees. There were 43 right and 31 left knees. Age was 38 years in average. Average operating time was 35 minutes (17 to 129). There was no pain in 54 cases (72.79%), pain was mild in 13 (17.58%) and 6 required general anesthesia. One surgical procedure was carried out in 32 cases (43.24%), 2 in 32 (43.24%) and 3 or more in 10 (13.51%). Preoperative diagnosis was correct in 44 cases (59.45%), partially right in 22 (29.72%) and difrerent in 8 (10.81%).According to the absence of pain results were excellent in 54 (72.79%), fair in 13 (17.58%) and poor in 6 (8.1%).
