ABSTRACT
In 1997, a whole of 501,293 workers affiliated to our Social Security System had some kind of labor-related accident. In 341,551 cases, accidents occurred while being in their working areas and in 79,871 did occur in transit to or from their working areas. A series of 33,785 out of the total, had lumbar sprain which mans 8%. This is one of the first 10 causes of temporary inability in our country. A tendency to an increase in days-off for chemical industry workers as a result of lumbar sprain was 50% higher in relationship to the remaining affiliate workers, however no difference in frequency of lumbar sprain was found between both groups.
