ABSTRACT
Sialolitiasis is a common disease of the salivary glands, but the development of a giant calculus (› 15 mm) is considered rare. It is reported the case of a giant stone of the left submandibular salivary gland in a 53 year-old male patient. He began with a gland infection (obstructive sialadenitis); a stone was found in the Warthon duct. The infection was treated and it was performed a transoral sialolithotomy with good results. There are only 22 cases reported in the literature since 1942.
