ABSTRACT
This paper presents the case of a 22-year-old male patient with severe recurrent bleeding after tonsillectomy, due to the use of lysine clonixinate to control the pain. By platelet aggregometry patelet dysfunction was demonstrated. Patient was given intravenous conjugated estrogen reaching bleeding control. The use of lysine clonixinate seems to be related to platelet dysfunction in this patient, due to its main inhibitory effect on ciclooxigenase type 2 (COX-2). Conjugated estrogens may be a therapeutic alternative in these cases. Precautions must be taken about the use of COX-2 inhibitors during the postsurgical period.
