ABSTRACT
Objective: Determinate the outcome of the acute coronary syndromes (ACS) treated with primary Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA).
Methods: This is a prospective, transversal, and observational study that registrated all patients undergoing to primary PTCA from January to August 2006 at the ABC Medical Center.
Results: From the 58 patients with ACS, 45 (77.5%) were treated with primary PTCA. Male predominated 3:1, 21 patients (47%) had unstable angina (UA), 20 (44%) ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and 4 (9%) had non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction. The main affected vessels were the left anterior descendent artery (56%), followed by the right coronary artery (20%), circunflex artery (16%), marginal vessels (2%) and main left coronary artery (2%). Four patients died (9%), all of them were ›65 years old, had a Killip and Kimball IV and 3 of them had more than 3 coronary risk factors.
Conclusion: The outcome of the ACS treated with PCA is similar to that observed in the rest of the world.
