This report describes three oubreaks of Acute Bovine Pulmonary Edema and Emphysema (ABPEE) ocurring in beef cattle grazing lush pasture in farms near Monterrey in the State of Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Animials were inainly adult cows that were suddenly submitted to changes from dry pasture to irrigated, and in some cases fertilized fields with Buffel, African Star, Klein or Bermiida grasses. Affected animals showed an acute respiratory distress syndrome. Postmortem examination demonstrated a severe congestion, edenia and interstitial empliyseina. Microscopic changes included congestion, protein rich alveolar eclenia and hialine menibranes, necrosis of alveolar septae, proliferation of cuboid alveolar epithelial cells lining sonie alveoli, alveolar hemorrhages and alveolar and interstitial emphysema. The ABPEE has not been previously recognized in Mexico.
