Comparative study of the agar gel immunodifusion test and the ELISA test in the bovine enzootic lymphosarcoma

ABSTRACT
Bovine enzootic lymphosarcoma is the mostimportant and common neoplastic disease in cattle. Information concerning this problem in Mexico is scarce. The objective of the study was to compare the effectivity of the agar gel iminunodiffusion test with the ELISA one for the diagnosis of this disease in Holstein-Friesian cattle sera. Tliree groupswere formed with ten animals each and a foiirth one with fifteen. The first consisted of seropositive animals with persistent leucocytosis; the second one ofseropositive animalswithoiitpresentation of the disease and without persistent leucocytosis; the third one with bovine enzootic leucosis and the fourth, . was the control. Three samples of blood were obtained from each animal with monthly intervals. Serological tests resulted equally specific. Major antibody titrers were detectedin Group 1, notfinding a direct correlation between titrers and presence of the clinical disease. Antibody titrers detected with ELISA did not change during the three samples in the infected groups.
