ABSTRACT
Bioptics is the combining pseudophakic posterior chamber intraocular lens and corneal surgery LASIK-LASEK or intraestromal rings.
Purpose: The present work was designed in order to evaluate the results in subjects who had bioptics surgical technique.
Methods: In 8 patients, 12 eyes with high myopia and astigmatism were treated by posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation (pseudophakia); the residual refractive error was treated with laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK).
Results: The mean preoperative uncorrected visual acuity was 0.03, postphaco 0.33 and postlaser values 0.44; the best preoperative corrected visual acurity (BCVA) was 0.37 and postlaser, BCVA was of 0.57. The mean preoperative spherical equivalent was -13.01 D; postphaco results were -0.518 D, and the mean final spherical equivalent was 0.125 D. The mean preoperative astigmatism was -3.77, postphaco -2.75 and postlaser -0.83.
Conclusions: High myopia and high astigmatism treatment by intraocular lens implantation and laser
in situ keratomileusis is a safe useful and effective surgical method in subjects with thin corneal values.
