ABSTRACT
Colorectal cancer is a preventive neoplasm, and an ideal situation for screening, because the current knowledge of the adenoma-carcinoma progression; 70% are average risk patients, while the other 30% have an hereditary component, or inflammatory bowel disease, these two conditions make them high risk patients. It recommends to begin screening at 50 years old by the first contact physicians, in average risk patients with one or several tests, fecal occult blood, flexible sigmoidoscopy, double contrast enema, virtual colonoscopy, and/or colonoscopy with biopsy and/or polypectomy, and opportune reference to the specialist. In high risk patients, currently, there is a molecular test, with seek of specific genetic mutations, besides the anterior test mentionated.
