Muscle energy techniques as a treatment method in patellar tendinopathy

ABSTRACT
The knee tendon plays an important role in biomechanical functions within the sports field, which are expressed when walking, running, jumping or making changes of direction. An injury to the soft tissues of the knee, mainly the patellar tendon, could threaten an athlete's career success. Muscle energy techniques are manipulations controlled by the kinesiologist, with the intention of reducing pain, and strengthening and increasing muscle length, very important purposes in the treatment plan for tendinopathies. The objective of this article is to report a review of muscle energy techniques as an alternative for the patient and the kinesiologist in the treatment of patellar tendinopathy symptoms. The review process focused on different patellar tendinopathy treatments from eight years ago in electronic in search engines such as PubMed, Trip and SciELO. In addition, indexed medical journals and physical books on the subject were consulted, both in English and Spanish. It was concluded that muscle energy techniques can be an alternative for effective treatment of tendinopathy symptoms, less expensive, easy to apply with universal access and less invasive than other techniques used for the treatment of tendinopathy.
