ABSTRACT
Breast reconstruction is an important part of breast cancer treatment. As with any procedure, complications are likely to arise, even in experienced hands, and it is, therefore, the responsibility of the plastic surgeon to make a pre-reconstruction assessment to reduce the risks and complications of the procedure, provide adequate follow-up, and inform the patient about the different options to reach a better decision regarding her treatment. From this standpoint, the purpose of this work is to carry out a review to establish safety guidelines, using evidence-based medicine, to carry out the mammoplasty procedure, specifically in a patient who has had a mastectomy owing to cancer.
