ABSTRACT
Introduction: the platelet/lymphocyte index (IPL) and lactate/albumin index (ILA) have been proposed as biomarkers with good predictive ability for mortality in patients with septic shock.
Objective: to compare the predictive capacity of IPL versus ILA for mortality in patients with septic shock.
Material and methods: a retrospective cohort study of patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit with a diagnosis of septic shock was performed. The predictive capacity of the IPL and ILA was compared with the SOFA and SAPS III scales.
Results: we analyzed 334 patients with a diagnosis of septic shock, 190 (56.9%) male patients, with a mean age of 69.6 ± 14.1 years. An AUC 0.790 was found for ILA (CI95% 0.742-0.838); 0.441 for IPL (CI95% 0.379-0.503); 0.742 for SOFA (CI95% 0. 690-0.795); 0.669 for SAPS III (CI95% 0.611-0.727); and 0.444 for ILA/IPL ratio (CI95% 0.381-0.506).
Conclusions: the IPL has no better predictive ability for mortality than ILA or SOFA and SAPS III scales in patients with septic shock.
