ABSTRACT
The surgical treatment for uterine anomalies has been described since the early XIX century. Paul Strassman in 1907 reported the first surgical correction for the double uterus by performing an anterior colpotomy in a patient with 8 pregnancy losses. The actual incidence of uterine malformations is not known; and their sole presence does not necessarily imply altered reproductive outcome. The indication for performing a metroplasty is recurrent pregnancy loss or inexplicable infertility in addition to the uterine anomaly. A clinical case is presented in which the Strassman procedure in a dydelphic uterus was performed. There are multiple series demonstrating reproductive success after metroplasty; with an important decrease in the percentage of fetal loss in patients without surgical treatment (70-96%) compared with patients in whom metroplasty was performed (8-12%).
