ABSTRACT
Introduction: chronic non-oncological diseases represent 70% of all deaths worldwide. Palliative care is essential to improve quality of life in a comprehensive and multidimensional way. In low-income countries, more than two-thirds of these patients do not receive this care during the course of the disease and to a lesser extent at the end of life.
Objective: to document early palliative care interventions in patients with non-oncological pathologies and multimorbidity through a literature review.
Material and methods: a review of the existing literature was carried out in PubMed and BIREME, for the analysis a decision tree was structured, documenting early palliative care interventions in the period from 2010 to 2024.
Results: the analysis of the literature found in non-oncological pathologies and multimorbidity describes that 66% were women and 34% men. The female sex had better results and impact on the quality indicators of palliative care. More than two-thirds of the population found does not receive early care.
Conclusion: the available evidence is limited or non-existent regarding the provision of early palliative care in patients with advanced non-oncological pathologies during the disease trajectory
