ABSTRACT
Pregnancy increases the risk of developing arrhythmias in healthy women, and a higher risk in women who have a history of heart disease or cardiac arrhythmia. Interdisciplinary management of arrhythmias in pregnancy is crucial, because they increase the risk of obstetric complications, including premature birth, preeclampsia and postpartum hemorrhage. Therefore, knowledge of antiarrhythmics and their effects on pregnancy is important. The patient is a 38-year-old woman, with a pregnancy of 19.3 weeks of gestation (GD), history of sinus node dysfunction, with a permanent pacemaker 22 years ago due to complete atrial ventricular block (CAVB) after radiofrequency ablation, who is admitted to the obstetric emergency area due to palpitations. Upon admission, the following were taken: cardiac enzymes, troponins (cTn), 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) and obstetric ultrasound. The presence of supraventricular tachycardia is documented, which is attempted to be reversed with vagal maneuvers without success; pharmacological cardioversion is performed, returning to sinus rhythm.
