ABSTRACT
Introduction: anastomotic leaks in cases of colorectal surgery are complex and depend on the integrated action of various factors, therefore, understanding their etiology, detection and classification is essential to avoid them. We propose a simple and effective surgical technique to prevent any anastomotic leak, without generating controversy in its usefulness and demonstrating good results.
Material and methods: for five years we performed a simple and reproducible surgical technique in cases of colorectal anastomosis. Original study in patients consecutively operated on with colorectal anastomoses who underwent intraluminal application of a "wavy drain" or corrugated, during the surgical procedure, in order to avoid any unfavorable hyper-pressure.
Results: all patients undergoing colorectal resection with side-to-end modified anastomosis were evaluated consecutively. Favorable results were obtained in 99.0% of patients, without early or late complications. The technique could be repeated without particularities and did not present problems related to the material.
Conclusions: the clinical application of our modified technique can prevent anastomotic leaks thanks to the management of endoluminal pressure. We propose its implementation using the proposed "undulated or corrugated drainage" and thus determine its therapeutic importance and compare it with routine techniques.
