ABSTRACT
The first thousand days, from conception to two years of age,
are a critical period for the development and prevention of
malnutrition in all its forms, and a window of opportunity
for the implementation of interventions that ensure optimal
development and improve human capital. This special article
aims to present the main challenges for health and nutrition
care in the first thousand days, the progress in the development
and implementation of a strategy for this purpose, and
to formulate priority recommendations for public policy for
the next administration.
