ABSTRACT
This review explores the origin of bacterial names, assigned for their morphological characteristics, in honor of historical characters or places of importance. Bacterial nomenclature is significant for its relevance in medical microbiology and its contribution to the scientific understanding of these microorganisms. The objective of this review is to analyze and synthesize the existing information on the criteria used to name bacteria, highlighting the relationship between the name and the characteristics of the microorganism.
