ABSTRACT
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is characterized by constant interpersonal instability, self-image, affect, and intense behavioral outbursts. This disorder has been related to a significant deterioration in the functioning of the individual who suffers from it, since it commonly causes self-harm and suicidal tendencies. In addition, according to national statistical data, at least 1.5% of the population has BPD. Given its prevalence and symptomatic relevance, this paper aims to describe the behavioral assessment process and a brief psychoeducational intervention carried out on a 16-year-old single female patient who presents responses associated with this disorder. The evaluation of the case was carried out through a semi-structured behavioral interview and the elaboration of a functional analysis of the behavior, likewise, a brief psychoeducational intervention with a cognitive-behavioral approach was carried out with the patient and her tutor. The results showed that the patient was able to identify the symptoms of BPD and panic attack, and a change in cognition and physiological reactions associated with anxiety was also achieved. While, in the case of the tutor, she was able to understand the symptoms that the patient presents, as well as the training in the execution of diaphragmatic breathing to help her in necessary cases. It is concluded that in this type of cases it is important to include the family and guarantee, as far as possible, adherence to comprehensive treatment that includes medical, psychological, and psychiatric care.
