ABSTRACT
Introduction: Sexual violence is a serious public health problem worldwide that affects individuals of all genders and age groups. The objective of this study is to identify the aggravating factors present in victims of sexual violence treated by the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences (INMLCF) in Cali, Valle del Cauca, during the period from January 2015 to December 2020.Methodology: The study population includes all victims of sexual violence treated by the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences (INMLCF) in Cali, Valle del Cauca. A total of 4,128 cases of sexual violence treated by the INMLCF during the 2015- 2020 period were collected. The variables of gender, age, and aggravating factors (such as victim's disability status, perpetrator's familial relationship, and perpetrator's authority over the victim) were analyzed.
Results: The results showed that the majority of sexual violence victims treated by the INMLCF in Cali were women, with proportions ranging from 82.9% to 87.6% compared to men, who accounted for 12.3% to 17.1% of the cases. Regarding age, it was found that the majority of victims were adolescents, followed by children and adults. Furthermore, aggravating factors such as victims under 14 years of age, familial perpetrators, victims with disabilities, and perpetrators in positions of authority were identified as recurrent in the analyzed cases.
Conclusions: The findings highlight the need to implement prevention and protection strategies for the most vulnerable populations, as well as strengthen reporting mechanisms and specialized care for cases of sexual violence.
