Pharmacological neurorehabilitation in cerebral infarction: the potential of cerebrolysin

ABSTRACT
Neurological rehabilitation has made notable progress in restoring stroke-related motor function. About 40% of patients who develop upper
limb motor disease remain disabled for all life despite receiving intensive physical therapy. For this reason, the need to have pharmacological
interventions that influence the neurorehabilitation of people with motor dysfunction has been emphasized. The present review analyzes the potential
of Cerebrolysin in functional recovery in patients with stroke, supported by experimental evidence from basic sciences and neuroimaging
studies that evaluate neuroplasticity, as well as its inclusion in the Motor Rehabilitation Guidelines in Patients with Acute Cerebral Infarction.
Finally, the combination of physical rehabilitation with neuro-reparative drugs is a novel therapeutic approach. Cerebrolysin provides favorable
effects in the restoration of motor function, preserves the integrity of the network motor during the process of neuronal reorganization after
cerebral infarction.
