ABSTRACT
Introduction: avocado (Persea americana) is classified as a superfood that contains many beneficial compounds for health. These could be used as therapeutic adjuvants in pathologies such as cancer, inflammatory and metabolic diseases due to their antioxidant properties.
Objective: to show the cytoprotective properties of Persea americana, its anticancer and anti-inflammatory activity through a bibliographic and panoramic search to make the reader aware of its benefits as a complementary treatment and daily consumption.
Material and methods: panoramic review where the effects and cytoprotective compounds of Persea americana were evaluated in three scientific databases with a total of 37 experimental articles and bibliographic reviews.
Results: Persea americana was found to be rich in antioxidant compounds such as polyphenols, carotenoids, vitamins, and glutathione, which was shown to have a cytoprotective effect on cancer, specifically breast, colon, gastrointestinal, and liver cancer.
Conclusion: Persea americana is an easily accessible food for the Mexican population, which has proven to be effective as an adjuvant therapy in pathologies related to oxidative stress such as chronic inflammation and cancer due to its cytoprotective and antioxidant effects.
