Methods: a prospective descriptive study was carried out at the "XXX Anniversary of the fall in Combat of the Heroic Guerrilla Fighter and his Companions" Teaching Polyclinic, in the Remedios municipality, from 2017 to 2020. Theoretical and empirical methods were used: documentary analysis, questionnaire to nursing staff and questionnaire to experts.
Results: the application of the questionnaires made it possible to characterize the nursing staff and determine the level of knowledge about palliative care, which was not acceptable to provide adequate care to the patient, in addition, ignorance about the theories and models of Nursing was revealed, due to it an improvement course was designed, valued by experts.
Conclusions: the course was pertinent since it offers a solution to problems of the nursing staff's performance on palliative care for patients with chronic heart failure in primary health care and its theoretical-practical preparation is in correspondence with the ministerial demands.
