ABSTRACT
The genus Capnocytophaga is formed by bacteria present in the oral cavity, they need CO2 for their development, a fact from which it derives its name. Morphologically, they are gram-negative rods, with a spindle-shaped appearance similar to that of fusobacteria. In 1976, a new gram-negative bacillus isolated from the blood and cerebrospinal fluid of a patient who had been bitten by a canine was described. Most of the descriptions in which these microorganisms are isolated have in common that they are caused by a dog bite. In 1989, to designate this new group, it was named Capnocytophaga canimorsus.REFERENCES
