ABSTRACT
Cutaneous Rosai-Dorfman disease is limited to the skin without
lymphadenopathy or other extracutaneous involvement. The etiology
is still unclear, the theories suggest that it is a reactive process
rather than a neoplastic disorder. The lesions are heterogenous
and not very specific, the most common site of lesions is
the face and the most common morphology is the nodule. The histologic
hallmark is emperipolesis and positive s-100 protein in immunohistochemistry.
After the diagnosis it is important to rule out
extracutaneous involvement. The clinical course is usually benign
and self-limited. We report a 75-year-old female with a presence of
skin lesions in arms, forearms, tights, and lumbar, characterized by
asymptomatic confluent red nodules of four months’ history. The
histopathology showed clusters of pleomorphic, large, foamy histiocytes
with polymorphonuclears, plasma cells and lymphocytes
in their cytoplasm. We ruled out an extracutaneous involvement
and confirmed cutaneous Rosai-Dorfman disease.
