ABSTRACT
Leg reconstruction represents a challenge for plastic surgeons, due to the poor compliance of the skin and adjacent tissues. The proximal edge of the sural flap can be used for skin coverage of the knee, since it provides the required features, such as thickness to withstand friction and pressure forces, similarity in texture and color of the skin, which allows adequate mobility of the knee joint. The objective of this work is to promote the use of the proximally based sural flap as a reconstructive option in the lower limb. We present two cases of reconstruction using the axial pattern flap; we got a resistant and durable cover that granted an adequate range of mobility, and a hospital stay of two days. We conclude that the use of this flap is an accessible, easy to carry out reconstructive option for having consistent anatomy and providing adequate coverage for knee function and appearance.
