Giant traumatic fibroma. Case report

ABSTRACT

Introduction: traumatic fibroma is a benign tumor that develops as an inflammatory response to an injury or trauma to the affected area. It usually appears in the oral cavity, usually on the tongue, jugal mucosa and lips, without discriminating between genders or ages. It presents clinically in a round or oval shape, of firm consistency of light pink color, variable size, usually less than 1 cm. Its diagnosis is clinical and histopathological. As a treatment, total excision of the lesion is recommended. Case presentation: a 64-year-old female patient with a 1.5 cm right jugal mucosal lesion, mucosal color, firm consistency and pedicle base is presented. Excisional biopsy of the lesion was performed. Result: definitive histopathological diagnosis traumatic fibroma. Postoperative controls were performed without evidence of lesion recurrence. Conclusion: traumatic fibroma is a benign lesion resulting from a stimulus. The recurrence rate is low.
