ABSTRACT
Introduction: The prevention of oral and maxillofacial congenital malformations in primary dental care could be an unattainable chimera for many, because little is known about what to do from the first level of care. Objective: Disseminate the prevention guide for buccomaxillofacial congenital malformations to be carried out by the stomatologist designed by González and Mena.
Methods: A technological development and innovation study was carried out in the province of Santiago de Cuba from March 2018 to April 2019, in which a guide for the prevention of buccomaxillofacial congenital malformations for Stomatology was designed and validated. An extensive and updated bibliographic review of theoretical-conceptual elements, as well as epidemiological elements related to this type of disease, was carried out.
Results: The designed guide has preventive actions distributed by each level of prevention of Leavell and Clark according to the types of primary, secondary and tertiary prevention. Activities of health promotion (first level), control of risk factors for buccomaxillofacial congenital malformations (second level), recruitment and stomatological evaluation during pregnancy (third level) were highlighted; as well as the control and surveillance of the patient carrying these diseases (fourth and fifth levels) that contribute to limit the damage and rehabilitate the lost functions.
Conclusions: The guide for the prevention of buccomaxillofacial congenital malformations to be carried out by the stomatologist designed by González and Mena, includes preventive actions to be carried out by the stomatologist for the prevention of buccomaxillofacial congenital malformations, which are distributed by all levels of prevention and include activities varied that can be implemented from the APS.
