ABSTRACT
New concepts in the treatment of bilateral cleft lip patients used in our field and other Cleft Lip and Palate Centers around the world are presented. New ideas have come forth due to the need to obtain better results in this difficult malformation that challenges the skill and imagination of even the most expert surgeons. Coordination of surgical and dental teams is mandatory to achieve successful lip and nose repair results. The use of non-invasive palatal plates (without bone fixation) to mold the naso-alveolar area, external nasal distractors to expand the columella as well as refined techniques of primary naso-labial reconstruction usually either preceding or followed by some form of naso-alveolar molding are emphasized.
