ABSTRACT
A modified suture technique to repair cleft lip is proposed. The traditional technique to repair cleft lip and cleft palate consists of placing non-absorbable suture stitches. These stitches are removed, from 4 to 7 days after surgery. The procedure for removal consists of sedating the patient or firmly holding the patient’s head to avoid movements while the stitches are removed. This procedure avoids causing skin injury and bleeding, which increases swelling and scaring of the tissue, closing with simple Poliglactin 910, 5-0 suture stitches under the dermis in 287 patients over a period of 3 years. This procedure does not require the use of sedatives to remove lip sutures. This method reduces anxiety in the patient’s family as the curing of the wound is carried out easily.REFERENCES
