ABSTRACT
The practice of general medicine by a physician may be a consequence of the lack of opportunity to become a specialist, but it also may be the result of a particular vocation where the patient is ranked above the disease, the organism above the organs, the people above the illnesses, width over depth, the subject over the object, the common above the exotic, and the physician's own skills above an arsenal of devices.
