ABSTRACT
Background: The most common benign tumor in childhood and adolescence is the
hemangioma, it is more frequent in the female sex, in the head and neck area (60%),
less frequent in the oral cavity, located on the lips, tongue, buccal mucosa; of red or
bluish red color, variable size, changes color to digital pressure, slow growth, and the
puncture is diagnostic. Spontaneous resolution occurs in 50%, and 90% of lesions resolve
before nine years of age. The most frequent complication is ulcer with or without
infection in 20% of cases. Treatments include mechanical compression, corticosteroids,
embolization, laser therapy, cryosurgery, and electrocoagulation; the scar is the most
frequent complication secondary to treatment.
Clinical case : A 25-year-old female patient with a bluish lesion in the right labial
commissure extending to the mucosa of the cheek, non-painful, slow-growing, without
limitation to the mouth opening, selective embolization was performed, and then arterial
clipping in a second time. Both procedures were unsuccessful, so we proposed
treatment with radiofrequency (Coblator).
Conclusions: Coblation achieves ablation, resection, and coagulation of soft tissues,
in addition to hemostasis of blood vessels, obtaining satisfactory aesthetic and
functional results for the patient.
