ABSTRACT
Introduction: The purpose of the six-minute walk test is to measure the maximum distance that an individual can travel during a six-minute period by walking as fast as possible.
Objective: To determine the current recommendations, applications and usefulness of the six-minute walk test in order to standardize its performance in the context of pulmonary hypertension.
Methods: The literature on the methodology, indications and application of the six-minute walk test was reviewed. A total of 63 bibliographic sources were selected, of which 29 were cited in the article.
Results: The six-minute walk test allows to know the evolution, as well as to assess the response to different treatments and establish a prognosis in patients with pulmonary hypertension.
Conclusions: The six-minute walk test is a feasible method in patients with pulmonary hypertension, and allows establishing response to treatment and prognostic scales in the management of the entity.
