ABSTRACT
Introduction: the intensive care area is a place where scientific-technical medicine is provided, and must be harmonized with special treatment for both patients and their families, the latter being the representatives of the patients in terms of medical care and decision making. Therefore, the perception of a humanized treatment establishes an environment of medical, patient and family trust.
Objective: to determine the satisfaction of the relative in the intensive care unit in a tertiary hospital.
Material and methods: an observational, descriptive, prospective study was carried out in a tertiary care hospital, where a satisfaction questionnaire was applied to the relatives of the patients hospitalized in intensive care. Descriptive statistics were performed; using frequency and percentages; as well as mean and standard deviation.
Results: the level of family satisfaction of the different dimensions of the questionnaire, showed a satisfaction of care of 80.34 ± 15.35, in decision making 80.83 ± 14.85 and a global satisfaction of 80.55 ± 14.21.
Conclusion: if the patient cannot actively participate in the care process, we must go to their families, in this situation, in our Hospital the degree of satisfaction of the relatives is high.
