ABSTRACT
Introduction: SARS-CoV-2 infection presents a different evolution in each patient, however, a marker of severity is the development of acute kidney injury network (AKIN) where in the general population an incidence near to 50% is reported in those patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, which when combined with the puerperium and severe Acute respiratory distress syndrome are parameters of poor prognosis
Objective: to analyze the incidence and risk factors associated with acute kidney injury in severe SARS-CoV-2 ARDS in postpartum women.
Material and methods: this study is a retrospective analytical case series. The analysis included cases from January 1, 2020 to January 1, 2022. The statistical procedure was carried out with descriptive statistics according to the type of qualitative or quantitative data.
Results: the general incidence of the population with AKIN was 0.26% during 2020 to 2021. The obstetric complication with the highest incidence was hypertensive states with n = 4 (36.4%), the affected systems were cardio hemodynamic, nephrourinary and respiratory in n = 11 (100.0%). The average age was 33.66 ± 4.31. During the follow-up of the patients, n = 3 (27.3%) cases of maternal mortality, according to the AKIN classification, one case of AKIN I and two cases of AKIN II.
Conclusion: there were 3 cases of mortality in the analyzed population, however, two of them had an AKIN II classification vs one with AKIN I; and the patients did not present lower levels of albumin and/or creatinine upon admission, so it could not be taken into account as a predictor of mortality.
