ABSTRACT
Introduction:
Inguinal hernia has been one of the most controversial surgical diseases throughout history. There are several classifications and countless techniques for inguinal hernia repair.
Objective:
To show the outcomes of laparoscopic surgical treatment of inguinal hernia at the National Center for Minimal Access Surgery.
Methods:
A retrospective and descriptive study was carried out of 737 patients with a diagnosis of inguinal hernia operated on by laparoscopic surgery, in the period from January 2011 to December 2018, at the National Center for Minimal Access Surgery.
Results:
The effectiveness of laparoscopic techniques was shown, with a low recurrence rate of 1.4% and a low conversion rate of 0.5%, while inguinodynia appeared in five patients, accounting for 0.5%, and postoperative seroma was a predominating complication.
Conclusions:
Laparoscopic surgery is a safe and effective treatment option for in inguinal hernia.
