ABSTRACT
Introduction: Professional improvement is part of the conception of continuing education to guarantee the skills of professionals during their active working life. This improvement is fundamentally guaranteed through training programs in different organizational forms, among which the course, training and diploma stand out. Objective: To analyze the results of the application of a methodological guide designed to evaluate the training programs offered at the Postgraduate Center of Hermanos Ameijeiras Surgical Clinical Hospital.
Methods: Observational study of the accredited training programs included in the 2017-2018 Professional Development Plan of the said center. During the annual methodological activity, the participating teaching groups applied an evaluation guide that included 23 aspects. Previously experts evaluated and validated this guide in the diploma courses of institution's Medical Education.
Results: 117 programs of 35 teaching groups were evaluated. Fifty percent had errors to correct before re-accreditation and two were rejected. The most frequent flawed aspects were the non-inclusion of teacher consultation, the distribution of hours according to the type of activity and the deficiencies in bibliography. The most jeopardised components of the teaching-learning process were the objectives and their relationship with the content, time planning and the definition of the problem. Regarding the usefulness and relevance of the guide, the opinions of the participating groups were favorable (35/39).
Conclusions: The results of the application of the guide to evaluate the quality of the training programs were satisfactory. Therefore, it can be used systematically for this purpose at Hermanos Ameijeiras Postgrade Center.
