ABSTRACT
Introduction: Spontaneous chronic urticaria develops without an apparent trigger, but
some infections are associated with exacerbation of symptoms, such as infections caused
by Helicobacter pylori.
Objective: To determine the relationship between the presence of chronic urticaria and
Helicobacter pylori infection.
Methods: A cross-sectional analytical study was carried out in the Dermatology Service
at Manuel Fajardo Clinical Surgical University Hospital from March to December 2018.
The sample consisted of 32 patients diagnosed with chronic urticaria, who attended the
dermatology consultation of the hospital, in this period, according to the non-probabilistic
selection criteria of the investigator.
Results: 34.4% corresponded to patients between 49 and 58 years of age. Twenty of them
had Helicobacter pylori infection and the female sex was the most affected. Pruritus
prevailed in 100% of the patients. The serological study was positive for Helicobacter
pylori in all cases. There was control of the disease in 40% of the cases after the treatment
of the bacteria.
Conclusions: Helicobacter pylori can stimulate the immune response with production of
inflammatory cytokines, which is related to chronic urticaria. IgG and
Immunochromatography constituted a tool for the diagnosis of the bacterium.
