ABSTRACT
Objetive: To determine the relationship between the TG/HDL index and the levels of urea, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine,
BUN/creatinine ratio, UrAc, UrAc/Creatinine index and glomerular filtration rate (GFR) in subjects apparently healthy.
Methods: The TG/HDL ratio was calculated by dividing the TG values by the HDL values. The biochemical parameters were determined
according to the protocols established by the clinical laboratory of the University Hospital of Puebla.
Results: 295 subjects,
aged 41.3±12.6 years, participated in the study. When the sample was divided into 4 groups according to the quartiles of the TG/HDL
index, it was observed that as the index values increase, so do the levels of creatinine, BUN/creatinine ratio, UrAc, the UrAc/Creatinine
ratio and GFR; a significant correlation was observed between the TG/HDL ratio and the BUN/creatinine ratio, UrAc, UrAc/Creatinine
ratio and with GFR even after adjusting for sex and age.
Conclusions: The TG/HDL index is related to indicators of kidney damage.
