ABSTRACT
Periodontal disease is the most widespread among all the diseases that man has suffered from prehistoric times, with the aim of determining the possible association of risk factors with the appearance of periodontal disease; An observational, analytical study was carried out in patients from CMF 8 belonging to the David Moreno Domínguez Polyclinic of Santa Rita, Jiguaní, Granma, from January to December 2019. A case study and unpaired controls were designed with a non-patient-patient relationship (2: 1), 96 healthy and 48 sick were chosen. The data were obtained from the clinical history and clinical examination performed on the patient, analyzed through the statistical package SPSS version 12.0 for Windows. The cross-product ratio (OR) and the Chi square were applied, with a reliability of 95% and a probability <0.05 to establish the relationships between the variables. Age ≥ 30 years was a demographic risk factor associated with the appearance of periodontal disease. The presence of dental plaque, smoking, dental caries, and diabetes mellitus were the clinical risk factors associated with the onset of the disease. The risk factor with the highest incidence was the presence of plaque or microbiota in the sulcus.
