ABSTRACT
Introduction: High resolution esophageal manometry is the optimal method for the diagnosis of esophageal motility disorders, with high sensitivity and specificity. An investigation was carried out with the objective of describing the results of the introduction of the technique at “Hermanos Ameijeiras” Hospital. Methods: descriptive study of case series, in 182 patients who underwent MAR in the Digestive Motility Laboratory of the Gastroenterology service of the Hermanos Ameijeiras Hospital, in the period from January 2018 to January 2019.
Results: Nine three percent (93 %) were useful studies and gastroesophageal reflux disease (40,1%) and functional dysphagia (32,3 %) the most frequent indications. 77,3 % had a previous study of esophagus-stomach-duodenum and 80,9% had an upper digestive endoscopy. Minor esophageal motility disorders were the most common (101 patients) and ineffective motility predominated in them (84 patients, 45,9 %). Type II gastroesophageal junction was the most frequent (43, 7 %).
Conclusions: The introduction of high resolution esophageal manometry allows accurate and early diagnosis of esophageal motility disorders with specific therapeutic intervention.
