Level of self perception in women, five years after breast augmentation with implants

ABSTRACT
The objective of this work was to analyze the level of self perception in women five years after breast augmentation with implants. We carried out a prospective cohort study after five years at after breast augmentation with implants in Guadalajara, Mexico. A total of 203 patients were included had been operated on at our hospital without distinction of the type of surgical technique, type of implant and surgical approach. An inform verbal consent was requested to carry out the survey proposed for the study. The 60.6% of women under 40 years old report a very high self perception or high self perception, while the corresponding percentage of women 40 years or older was higher in 77.5% of the cases. We found that the risk of a lower self perception between young women is twice higher compared to women 40 years or older (ORc 2.23 CI 95% 1.15-4.31, p = 0.023). With this information, it is important to stress it is highlighted the self-image dressed that their image in front of the mirror and the femininity perception presented greater frequencies between women of 40 years or older (p = 0.027 y p = 0.018), respectively. We concluded in this study that 66.5% of the women had a high or higher level of self perception five years after breast augmentation with implants. Women 40 years and older had a higher self perception (77.5%) than those of a younger age (60.6%).
