ABSTRACT
Recent research suggests that ambroxol is related to the blocking of sodium influx during action potential in nociceptive neurons. This work aims to at comparing pain management, without analgesics, with paracetamol or with ambroxol, in patients with tenorrhaphy. Patients were assigned to three groups. Group A received no analgesic treatment, group B was treated with ambroxol, and group C was treated with paracetamol. Pain assessment was done using the Duran-Houser protocol at in each joint. We collected 31 cases in one month. Pain was present in group A at 3-4 on the visual analogue scale, 2-4 in group B and 2-4 in group C. No significant difference was found between the 3 groups in any of the weeks evaluated. We conclude that our findings showed a lack of association and that ambroxol does not increase pain tolerance, compared to those using paracetamol, or to patients receiving no analgesic. In addition, we found no difference in functional outcomes after rehabilitation, so no further analysis was necessary.
