ABSTRACT
The term Vasculitis is comprised by a group of conditions or syndromes which are characterized by the inflammation and necrosis of blood vessel walls. Systemic Vasculitis can constitute a highly heterogeneous group of pathologies that can range from auto limited benign processes to life-threatening ones. It’s clinical manifestation, treatment and prognosis depends upon the extent and location of the lesion as much as particular vessel involved. Recent studies have shown that despite many advances in the field, Systemic Vasculitis is a chronic pathology in which patients who suspend their treatment are bound to suffer a resurgence of the disease. Currently an extensive amount of research is being done in order to better treatment with less toxic medications, alternative therapies, by trying to decide exactly when immunosuppressive treatment is really necessary therefore bettering the quality of life at the patient. This article reviews and basic concepts and treatment guidelines for systematic Vasculitis based on the International Consensus Conference of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, United States, 1993.REFERENCES
