ABSTRACT
Introduction: the ABO blood group system discovered by Karl Landsteiner is still valid; he has contributed in multiple disciplines. The applications are intruded in medical practice because of their clinical importance. Objective: to determine the type and frequency of blood groups of the ABO System and the Rh factor in medical students. Method: a comparative analysis was carried out, aimed at studying the frequency of blood groups and the Rh factor in second and third year students of the Salvador Allende Faculty. An intentional sample of 39 students was taken for 17.1% representativeness. The qualitative determination of the groups and of the D antigen was carried out with hemo classifying reagents, the data were processed in Excel and the Proportion Analysis test was applied with the statistical package Stats Tester. Results: it was found that group O and A positive were the most frequent; the Rh positive factor was the one that predominated; like mongrel skin. Regarding the frequency of blood groups in relation to skin color, group B was present in black women, group A in white women, and group O in mestizos. Conclusions: the type and frequency of blood groups of the ABO system and the Rh factor in medical students were determined. The predominant groups are O and A, which differ from B and AB. The Rh positive factor is different from the Rh negative factor, both for the total and within each sex.REFERENCES
