ABSTRACT
The objective of this study was to evaluate the functioning of the CES-DR
in a sample of psychology students. A descriptive, retrospective study
of primary sources was carried out in which 117 Psychology students from
public and private universities in Colombia participated. For data analysis,
the SPSS 21 program was used, an internal consistency analysis was
performed using Cronbach's Alpha and a factorial analysis of principal
components with oblique rotation. In addition, a comparison of depressive
symptomatology between men and women was made using t-test for
independent samples. The results showed an adequate internal
consistency of the CES-D-R, both in the total scale and in the subscales,
except for factor 5, which obtained an unacceptable alpha coefficient. Five
factors were found that explained 67.18% of the total variance, the first
factor that appeared was: emotional insecurity and interpersonal problems
with 12 items that presented adequate internal consistency, the second
factor was positive affect made up of only 3 items, however presented an
acceptable internal consistency; the third factor was somatization with 11
items and adequate internal consistency, the fourth factor was depressed
affect with only three items but high internal consistency, and the fifth
factor is called mixed because it was made up of items of emotional wellbeing,
emotional insecurity and somatization Regarding the comparison
of depressive symptomatology based on gender, there were no
statistically significant differences between Colombian men and women
studying Psychology.
