ABSTRACT
Introduction: organ and tissue donation requires greater promotion in order to give people in need of them a chance of survival and improve their quality of life. The objective of this study is to know the perspective of health personnel towards the subject of organ and tissue donation.
Material and methods: 121 questionnaires were made to medical and nursing personnel about their attitude towards organ and tissue donation; descriptive analysis was performed with measures of central tendency (mean and median) and measures of dispersion (standard deviation and interquartile range). For the comparison of means with χ
2 or Student's t with a significant p less than 0.05. The statistical program SPSS version 25 was used.
Results: the group most interviewed were women in 75 cases (62%), age group from 26 to 40 years with 70 people (57.9%), 63 doctors (52.1%), of those surveyed 19 of them had some chronic disease (15.7%), and 95 were catholic (78.5%). Of those surveyed, 104 (86.0%) were in favor of the issue of organ and tissue donation and of those who were in favor of the issue, only 57 would truly donate their organs and 62 would donate the organs of a relative.
Conclusions: the attitude of health personnel to the issue of organ donation is good, however, when the decision is individualized, the willingness to donate their own organs or that of a family member decreases.
